In your travels, have
you looked up Baiter House at 6 Nicholas Pl, or the Madam
CJ Walker Townhouse on W. 136th St.? The house you
showed with the "Russian" roofed tower, if the address is
8 Nicholas Pl, I think is the John Fink House. Check
back with you later. Thank you for noticing the ...Dear Mr. Foreman,
Thank you for noticing the hard work of my very dear mother-in-law, the "elderly Oriental lady" you saw pulling weeds from the front yard of the James A. Bailey house.
My wife and I are awaiting construction of the observatory windows before we can complete the roof restoration. The "first class" slate and copper installation is by Christopher Short and his crew at shortslate.com. The copper finial is an exact replica of the original that came off the house in a storm two years ago. It was made by Liam Tower at slateaffair.com
I look forward to meeting you next time.
Martin SpollenGotham1888https://www.blogger.com/profile/06235210524456864881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6170852285107502075.post-67147848721931385802011-10-25T09:17:16.124-07:002011-10-25T09:17:16.124-07:00The NY Times ran a "Streetscapes" column...The NY Times ran a "Streetscapes" column on the Bailery house in 2005. Here's the link:

http://www.nytimes.com/2001/04/08/realestate/streetscapes-150th-street-st-nicholas-place-1888-mansion-built-bailey-barnum.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm

The article says the house's interior was designed by Joseph Burr Tiffany, a cousin of Louis Comfort Tiffany. At the time the article was written, the long time owners (who had the funeral home in the house) were attempting a restoration, but it appears that they have since sold the house.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6170852285107502075.post-86950652703961511372011-10-23T23:26:26.363-07:002011-10-23T23:26:26.363-07:00Nice to see this house getting a proper restoratio...Nice to see this house getting a proper restoration--a considerable rarity. Large detached houses are the epitome of luxury--attached houses can also be grand, but one things of the stories in Life with Father about Father's upset reactions to the sounds coming through he party walls.
--Road to ParnassusParnassushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08958901307538141468noreply@blogger.com
