I recently learned that my Great-Grandparents were servants for William & Mary Kingsland from at least 1900, until Mary’s death in 1919. Census records show they both lived 1026 Fifth Ave and the country estate in Mount Pleasant, NY at one time. They eventually started a family and had their own apartment in the Bronx, but my Great-Grandfather, Denis Egan, continued to serve as the Kingsland’s butler. He died a few weeks after Mary in 1919, but my Great-Grandmother was able to buy a home and take care of her family for many years with (what I assume to be) the $25k Mary left to the butler in her will. If in your research, you have any insight as to how the servants lived, I’d be grateful if you passed it on. For example, I don’t know if they were responsible for a single residence, or if they travelled with their employers.Mary Beth McMahonhttps://www.blogger.com/u/2/profile/09614416187478854611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6170852285107502075.post-66007021344367077002020-10-25T01:34:21.265-07:002020-10-25T01:34:21.265-07:00صولا
