Most of the Pratt homes still exist and are repurposed. Beautiful articles and beautiful photos, old and new. My one observation looking at the tennants of the buildings now is that most do not respect or love their surrounds. All marble walls and staircase!!! The majority of offices have stacks of books, papers, boxes, trash all over the place and don't use the beauty of the building to enhance their business, just cover it up. I would die to have an office or school in such a heritage building and use it to my advantage. Guess I am just old fashioned.Windmill Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17660607112965782537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6170852285107502075.post-77611640732099347342015-04-17T10:54:39.005-07:002015-04-17T10:54:39.005-07:00very interesting posts! my sister spent some time ...very interesting posts! my sister spent some time in the jr high attached to the college up in tarrytown; had not realized there was a lower school in manhattan.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6170852285107502075.post-77713697089580850762015-04-17T08:01:57.416-07:002015-04-17T08:01:57.416-07:00John: Thank you for another fascinating post. One of the pleasures of reading these is that they invariably lead me to fritter away hours of valuable time in the pleasant pursuit of related facts and figures.

In this case, the defunct Brooklyn department store Frederick Loeser & Co (rhymes with "closure" as Time Magazine rather waspishly pointed out in a 1952 story about the store shutting down). There's quite a bit of info out there about this store. Too bad something more sympathetic to the house could not have been contrived. How marvelous, though, it must have once been. Many thanks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
