I've gotten behind the scenes tours as well but you not allowed to take pictures there so I'm grateful for yours! Now when I want to I will just look at yours! My aunt will be thrilled to see this too! She is in love with house too, I like it but I'm a vanderbilt enthusiast. I loved your book on their houses. Hands down my favorite book about mansions. The absorption of the former by the latter is not successful, although clearly no expense was spared. I found myself walking through the main floor, trying to figure out what survived from the original house, and wishing heartily that it had been so lucky when I toured the MM everal years ago. That being said, I certainly prefer the Mills Mansion to the deadly Vanderbilt Mansion, which has all the light heartedness of a morgue. I can't think of another house of the era with the family quarters tucked off to the side like that.

It's also nice to see a house with hasn't been restored to within an inch of its life. Yes, it needs work, but so of the original (at least McM&W original) is still there.Rugby E. It's really a n enormous pile of a place, reminiscent in some ways of those old Hollywood movie sets of millionaire's mansions (or should that be the other way around?) It's well worth a trip to see.Shawn Cullenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18270423231633162242noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6170852285107502075.post-61392700704008954932012-06-14T07:15:08.244-07:002012-06-14T07:15:08.244-07:00A spectacular and very thorough post.
