The hall lighting might be fluorescent and the original bedroom doors covered with sheet metal. But occasionally behind those doors you'll a beautiful old bedroom, run down perhaps but largely intact, complete with folding mahogany window shutters (usually nailed shut), heavy plaster ceiling moldings and a big marble fireplace, doing duty today as a studio apartment. You're equally likely, however, to find a room that's been totally stripped of detail.
