I was slightly, but only slightly, disappointed years later, when I first visited to see that the curators had 'cleaned up' a bit (they just can't help themselves). Still a marvelous experience. There is a federal era country estate, Woodlawn, (www.woodlawnmuseum.org) near here that has similarly kept its lands and the displayed accumulations of the generations, as if the last bachelor son had just gone for a walk. Marvelous stuff, the layering of social artifacts and architecture. Further, a lot of history is often lost in the process.<br /><br />Still, Montgomery Place looks magnificent and I hope to be able to visit it. I was especially interested to know of A.J. Davis' connection.
